Insect Bombs – Are they effective and when should you use them

If you walk down any household/insect repellant aisle of a store, you are bound to see an insect bomb.  They come in lots of brands and for lots of different pests: bed bugs, roaches, fleas, etc.  They just sit there enticing you with a way to easily treat your home.   “Just place one bomb in each room” and POOF! No more bugs!

The truth is these products are most effective on flying insects in an enclosed room, not every bug you see crawling around.  I know it seems that a fog of pesticide should penetrate everything in the room and kill all living pests there.  However, when the pests sense the fog, they tend to move deeper into the wall or crack or crevice where the chemical does not penetrate.  So, the use of aerosols may make an infestation of pests even MORE difficult to control.

If you want to try to protect your home from pests – concentrate on removing moisture and water sources, sealing cracks and crevices, and removing all food sources, you will be more likely to eliminate a pest, while being friendly to the environment!
